Jack Vettriano (Born November 17, 1951) is a painter who was born in Methil, Fife, Scotland where he also grew up. He has a unique style often described as sentimental, earns global recognition. At the same time, some of Vettriano’s creative pieces as considered mysterious while others are melancholic in their rights. Also known as Jack Hoggan, Vettriano has been painting for the past two decades and has created several original motifs. At the turn of the 21st century, Vettriano sold a whopping 500,000 artworks, seeing many of his paintings found their way into private, commercial, and public collections across the globe. Funny enough, Vettriano originally wanted to be a mining engineer, having worked in a coal mine after he quit school at age 16. His entry into art wasn't intentional. It happened that his girlfriend gifted him watercolors on his 21st birthday and so he decided to learn how to paint by reading books and copying the works of other renowned artists. In 1988, he had his work displayed at the Royal Scottish Academy. When Vettriano began, the income wasn't enough, but after the exhibition, he started earning more, reaching a point at which he could quickly focus on his painting career full time. He eventually went beyond the borders, exhibiting his works in Hong Kong, Edinburgh, Johannesburg, and London, leading to greater success. During the International 20th Century Art Fair in New York held in November of 1999, 20 of his painting sold after the first day. His best seller is The Singing Butler, which was first rejected in 1992 by the Royal Academy summer exhibition. Twelve years after that, the painting landed a handsome £ 744,500.00.
Vettriano continues to create his work in London and Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Renowned figures, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jack Nicholson, and Robbie Coltrane collect his original art.
