His family adhered to Buddhist traditions and this had a remarkable impact on him and his art. As a child, his passion for art and the proximity of nature contributed much to his learning process. He studied art and engineering at the Kawai Sumi-e School and at UCLA. After spending many years working in the world of business, his readings of the life of the great 17th century painter and swordsman, Musashi Miyamoto compelled him to return to the world of art.
