Hope Smith (Born 1879) was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Her artistic talent was natured by her family who encouraged her to pursue a career in the arts. She was an active member of many professional art societies including Rhode Island Historical Society, the South County Art Association and the Providence Art Club. Currently, her work is on display at Providence Art Club. She’s known for figure, landscape and genre. She was a painter of oil and watercolor -noted for urban and rural scenes of Providence; genre and late paintings, and landscape paintings; and marine scenes of Maine. She died in 1965 after leading a very active and successful life as an artist. She studied art at Rhode Island School of Design under Woodbury C. H., Ogunquit, ME; Academy of the Great Chaumière and Julian Academy, Paris; W. M. Chase, ASL. She studied under Mary Wheeler, of the Wheeler School. Hope also attended the Art School in Eastern Canada, and while at the school, she developed her signature style in which she combined her love of traditional with contemporary elements of design. This style made her to produce unique and attractive pieces of art. Hope attributed her love for art to the fact that she grew up in a country that was blissful for her. Here, she was surrounded by gentle rolling hills and the peace and quietness of nature provided her with time to reflect and absorb the beauty that surrounded her. Her art has been selling in large numbers especially the framed Hope Smith art.
