Framed Ryerson Prints

M. Ryerson (Born 1886) was born in Morristown, New Jersey. She’s a painter and print maker who has established a reputation as an artist and an editor of "The Art Spirit", which is one of the better-known books in American art. The book is a compilation of her notes from the painting classroom of Robert Henri. The artist proposed the idea to Robert, and they worked together on the editing and in 1923 they completed the project for publication. The book became an attention getter because of Roberts's focus on encouraging artists to be unique and free in their expression, which during that time was an astonishing assertion. "The Art Spirit” has become a classic and is one of the most influential art books ever written; that’s according to art historian Rubinstein Charlotte. M. Ryerson received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1909 in English from Vassar College. She continued her studies at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown MA as a pupil of Charles Hawthorne and at the Art Students League in New York with Robert Henri. She excelled as an oil painter and is noted for her portraits of children. From 1920 to 1920 (a twenty-year period) she taught art in New York settlement houses in exchange for the opportunity she was given to paint and draw the children in their care. During this period she created what is regard by many scholars as her greatest achievement. This was a series of fine prints and paintings that depict children of the immigrants and underclass with such esteem and understanding that they found widespread demand and appeal. The framed M. Ryerson art are found in many stores all over the world.
