F. Parmigianino (Born January, 1503) was an Italian painter who was among the first artists to develop the sophisticated and elegant version of Mannerist style. This style is considered to have had strong influence on past-High Renaissance generation. Parmigianino’s art was strongly influenced by Carreggio even though he was not his pupil. This influence is evident in Parmigianino’s first important work, The Mystic Marriage of St. Catherine. He was also an early Italian etcher. He also designed Chiaroscuro wool cuts and had a considerable influence on Italian Print making even though his output was small. Parmigianino’s father died when he was only two years old leaving behind 8 children, so Parmigianino and his siblings were raised by their two uncles Pier Ilario and Michele who were modestly talented artists. His uncle received a commission for the decoration of a chapel, a work that was later completed by Parmigianino in 1524. Parmigianino travelled to Rome with five of his paintings seeking patronage of the Medici pope, Clement VII. Two of the paintings were his self portrait that he painted from a convex mirror and the Circumcision of Jesus. While in Rome, he was celebrated as “Raphael reborn” due to the quality of his works. In 1531, he received a commission for the altar pieces depicting St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph from the Church of Santa Maria della Steccata. Parmigianino was a great influence to many; among those he influenced were Francesco Borgani, Giacommo Berfoia, Pomponeo Amidano, Alessandro Mazzuoli, and Girolamo Mazzuoli who was his cousin. Framed Parmigianino’s art are currently much Sought after by many collectors because of their quality and rich history.
