Anita Munman has been offering period-inspired works since 1993. These pieces of art are offered in the Arts/Mission & Crafts style, and are produced from her original paintings. She continues that tradition by offering a growing selection of Limited Edition canvas giclees, a large selection of Open Edition Canvas lithographs, and occasionally an artist's proof, or original painting plus Arts and Crafts style frames. Anita worked in sales for a telecommunication company in the 1980s. She left the work and returned to school to study the influences of Japanese culture on American art and architecture. Then Anita and her husband decided to remodel their home in Oak Park (a 1912 Craftsman home), they spent all the money and none was left to buy art. So, Anita decided to create her own fresh art. She made gouache paintings and ink drawings based on works by artists of the era of Arts and Crafts. Once her own walls were covered, she placed an ad in a magazine and was surprised the way the sales boomed. Many of the artists who influenced her work were inspired by the Japanese landscape drawings and prints that flooded the country in the 1920s through to the 1930s. She says that there was a mania for Japanese things. Many people were fascinated by the different approach, which wasn't as realistic or symmetrical. Her work was spotted L. & J.G. Stickely Furniture Co. and convinced her to sell through its catalog. The artist now has a stable of 6 artists who produce 35 paintings a week. Framed Anita Munman art are found all over the world.
