Samuel R. Meyrick (Born 1783) was born to John and Hannah Meyrick. He loved art from a tender age and he became a collector of antiques. He did inherit from his father this passion for collecting antiquities. He used to collect arms and armor and, in 1810, this made him to be elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquities. He produced art that depicts his respect and love of nature, and his sense of humor regarding the more domestic variety. After the death of his wife, he focused on building the Meyrick collection using a series of acquisitions from other collections. After his death in 1848, the Meyrick collection and Goodrich Court passed to his cousin Augustus, who exhibited them in 1869 at the Victoria and Albert museum. Augustus disposed of the collection to many private buyers after first offering it to the British Government. He also donated some objects to the British Museum. In 1803, Meyrick and Mary Parry eloped to Wales against the wishes of his parents. This made him to be cut out of his father’s will and he was forced to live on a petite allowance. For him, the best way to show his appreciation of subjects that he so much cherished was to depict them in the best way he could. Many of the important items in his collection were purchased by the Wollaston Augustus Franks, an antiquarian who later also donated them to the British Museum. His art is licensed in his country and also abroad. Framed Samuel R. Meyrick art are very durable and can be used for decoration purposes for a lifetime.
