Jennifer Mercede enjoys working with adults and kids alike. She occasionally teaches workshops throughout the year. Jennifer loves to encourage people to play in their art, have fun and free up. Jennifer began making art at a young age. She was inspired by her grandmother who was a free-spirited watercolorist. She was born in Long Beach, CA but raised up in Connecticut. She’s a graduate of Western Washington University form where she obtained a bachelor of arts degree in painting. after graduation, she took a few years to live life Bohemian style, earnestly checking off: Heli-skiing, hitch-hiking to Alaska, living in her station wagon on Key West, etc. She’s spontaneous in her creation and she loves to think on a whim in a variety of expressions, including music, art, play and writing. Jennifer might have inherited her talent from her grandmother. She loved having the house to herself and spent hours making hundreds of floral greeting cards. She liked to crank up the music as she worked on creative projects. Jennifer’s artistic personality was formed by Portland, and her painting style references bright color fields, free-flowing text, and energetic, crazy doodling. Her art is meant to motivate and engender joy, and she gets inspired by, children’s art, life adventures, graffiti, old-school hip hop, creative friends and abstract expressionism. When she first landed in Portland, she began to show in small coffee shops. Soon, she began to emerge as an artist with the loving support of a great community. Now her work is owned internationally and is well known throughout Portland. They are mainly availed as framed Jennifer Mercede art.
