Katherine McNeill is a self taught artist who was born in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Her parents moved the family to the United States in 1951. In 1978 she together with her family moved and settled into the Pikes Peak region of Colorado. She loved this region and the love is expressed beautifully in her mountain and aspen paintings. Katherine had the privilege to study under such notables as the late Mickey McGuire, Lloyd Thorsten, Quang Ho, and Joseph Boehler. She also studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and at the Arts Student League of Denver. She and her husband have traveled extensively throughout Europe and the mountain states hiking and backpacking the remote areas to obtain material for her paintings. Portrait artist John Singer Sergeant along with the 19th century landscape artists Bierstadt and Moran have been her major influence. Her paintings are reflective of impressionism and realism, and they are currently being collected national and internationally. Her years of painting mountains and aspen trees have in many ways been a spiritual journey. To create a heavy texture, Katherine uses a very heavy pallet knife, and in every stroke of her brush she tries to carry her faith onto canvas to give someone a sense of peace in their hearts and to touch their life. As she recreates this excitement with paint onto canvas, light and its unique qualities are the most exciting of natural phenomena for her. Today, framed Katherine McNeill art can be found in many collections and galleries throughout the world. Katherine has also published a book titled "Art by Faith."
