Ed Martinez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was born to a commercial (graphic) artist, and his grandfather was an accomplished musician. He went to the United States when he was just five years old. His clients include AT&T, Ralph Lauren, Heineken, Lord & Taylor, Dos Equis, and the National Labor Day Foundation, among others. His paintings have been used by numerous publishers, such as William Morrow, Putnam, Harcourt Brace and Houghton Mifflin. He secured an invitation to the Kennedy Center Book Fair in Washington D.C. courtesy of the success of his children’s book titled “Too Many Tamales.” The book was a featured offering. In addition to his numerous gallery shows in Connecticut and New York, the artist paints portraits and does landscapes on commission. Martinez also paints en plein air around and in the hills of Litchfield County, and on trips to Argentina. He attended the art school in New York City. After graduation, he has illustrated many books and magazines for children and adults. He has been commissioned for a range of private and commercial projects, from portraiture and advertising to children’s books. His works reflect a modern view of subject matter, a particular attention to detail and records of contemporary scenes. This is what has made framed Ed Martinez art to be very popular with collectors. A cultural and social documentarian, Martinez’s style is suggestive of artists such as Honoré Daumier, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Georges Seurat. He likes to go out in his jeep to paint the cows, farms, and streams near Kent.
