Kent Lovelace (Born in 1953) was born in Washington D.C. and he was raised in the San Francisco Bay area. He holds a BFA and MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Washington in Seattle respectively. His graduate studies were under the direction of Jacob Lawrence, a world renowned artist. Lovelace also apprenticed at Landfall Press in Chicago as a lithographer; working as assistant to Christo Claes and Oldenburg, among others. Since 1979, the artist has been the Master Lithographer for Stone Press Editions, Inc., in Seattle, WA. During this time, he has been the principle printmaker for artists Robert Bateman, Jacob Lawrence, Monte Dolack and Dale Chihuly, and worked expansively with Russell Chatham and many others. Lovelace loves to travel and his recent travels have seen him painting in the Italian Umbria, the Dordogne region of France, and the Big Hole in western Montana. His artwork can be found in most major private and public collections throughout the Pacific Northwest and many others nationwide. The framed Kent Lovelace art can also be seen hanging on some of the most prestigious wall and spaces in the world. Everywhere he goes, he brings something back. He loves to see the landscape through painting. His main focus is on composition, surface and color. Lovelace has long been interested in the pastoral landscape, the ancient land and its continuing use in particular. His recent paintings seem to glow from within as they are created on copper plate. His artwork combines the elements of sky and earth with simplicity, creating images that appeal to the viewers’ minds and souls.
