Framed Linard Prints

Jacques Linard (1597 - 1645) was a French artist with a groovy penchant for still-lives. He rendered his images with visible brush strokes that transformed them into something more realistic. Linard is one of the great painters of the first half of the 17th century. He was baptized on the 6th September, 1597, and was married to the daughter of a Parisian Master Painter in 1626. Linard was quoted as a painter in 1631. He lived in the Saint-Germandes- rès quarter, a place that was famous for having many still-life painters including Lubin Baugin, Louise Moillon and as well as many other Flemish artists who specialized in still-life. His goal in each of his painting was to capture a happy moment in time when a slower paced life allowed for a greater appreciation of the simple pleasures. Linard was appointed Peintre et Valet de Chambre du Roi to Louis XIII in 1631, a post that gave him some financial freedom and certain autonomy for the remainder of his career. He liked his work and always tried to invite viewers to step into his paintings, and share moments of pleasure. Framed Jacques Linard art has been a tremendous source of inspiration to many upcoming artists in the whole world, particularly in France. His late works were more allegorical. A good example is “The Five Senses” of 1638, in which some coins, a musical box, mirror, flowers fruit, and a set of cards evoke the viewers’ five senses and in which the permanent elements contrast with the perishable ones, symbolizing the passing of time.
