Yuko Lau grew up in Japan. She was a daughter of a school principal and therefore had a structured life and a good upbringing in terms of character. She loved art from an early age and the best moment for her was when she was having colored pencils, paint, or origami. Anything she could use to create something. There was nothing she liked better to do as a kid than art. She was keen to follow in the footsteps of other great artists to make a mark as an artist. Art gave her the outlet to explore her creative side, to look beyond the black and white lines into a world of color, shapes and wonder. In 1987, Yuko moved to the San Francisco to study furniture design and construction at the California College of Arts. She always loved modern furniture. Coming from a modest family, they had nothing like that in their house. She particularly loved the colors and the playful nature of the post modern furniture from Italy. She wanted to design and build something like that. Yuko became a studio furniture maker and had shows across the US, including the American Craft Museum in New York City, and the Oakland Museum in California. After 10 years of exhibitions, she realized she loved the creative, designing aspect, but not necessarily the grueling physical demands of building furniture. She was later inspired by her adopted daughter, Asuka, to transition into wall decor images. She produces an array of delightful high quality etchings and many fine originals on canvas. Yuko paints different subjects and also creates some exciting abstract pieces as well. There’s high demand for her creative pieces. That’s why several galleries stock ready to mount framed Yuko Lau art. Her works are also available in a variety of other finishing options.
