Lt. Victor Jorgensen (8th July, 1913 – 14th June, 1994) was born in Portland, Oregon. He was a former Navy photo journalist who is mainly remembered for the iconic photograph of an impromptu scene he took in 1945 in Manhattan. He attended Reed College and the University of Oregon, and graduated in 1936. After graduation, he joined the staff of The Oregonian, and worked his way up to night city editor. It is during that time that he became interested in photography and he was becoming a respected photographer by the advent of World War II. In 1942, Jorgensen enlisted in the Navy. He was among the six initial photographers that were recruited by Edward Steichen to join the Naval Aviation Photographic Unit during the war. In 1943, Jorgensen served in the Gilbert Islands, in the Mariana. He also served in Borneo, the Philippines and the hospital ship USS Solace off Okinawa. In the post-war decade, Jorgensen traveled widely as a photographer researcher team. He was contributing to magazines including Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Life, Ladies Home Journal, and Fortune. He also has the opportunity to serve as president of the American Society of Media Photographers. After leaving the Navy, he settled in Maryland and took over the Chesapeake Skipper magazine. He renamed it The Skipper. Jorgensen worked very hard and boosted the magazine’s subscriptions to 50,000 from 1,500 by 1968. His works are very popular. Ready to mount framed Lt.
