Elizabeth Jordan (Born in 1970) was born in Sea Cliff, New York. Her parents were of Russian decent. She grew up in a home where two languages were spoken. Growing up during the cold war in America, Elizabeth recalls that she identified strongly with her Russian roots. She felt so much attached to Russia but it was not until the age of 22 that she got an opportunity to set foot in Russia. Elizabeth settled in Russia for more than 10 years and she raised 5 children. She really enjoyed being a full time mother and wife. Her hobby included pictures and it developed so much during her years in Russia. However, it was only when she moved to London in 2003 that she transitioned to a professional artist. She used photography as a tool for capturing the dignity and beauty of people living in developing countries in extreme circumstances. The photographer traveled across India, Africa, Haiti, Russia, etc, and brought back memorable and horrific images which vividly told the stories of children and women who were affected by poverty that surrounded them, and who were also victims of lack of cultural value and political underrepresentation. Because she was affected by the correlation between disease and poverty, she started to take a keen interest in medical research, the role that her photography could play in supporting science and the parallels that run between scientific research and art. She used vintage medical beakers and fiber optic filaments to create a series of light sculptures. The framed Elizabeth Jordan art are very common in many institutions.
