John William Hill (Born 1812) was born in London but moved to America where he worked as an artist. He’s an artist known for working in a variety of media including gouache, watercolor, engraving and lithography. His works focused basically on natural subjects including still lifes, landscapes, and zoological and ornithological subjects. Hill was influenced by John Ruskin in the 1850s and his association with the followers of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in American, made his attention to turn toward still life and landscape from technical illustration. Being born into an artistic family led to his strong passion for the arts – he was the son of John R. Hill who was an aquatint engraver. His works can be found in prestigious institutions and collections including the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts. They are also found in many online stores, and in many physical stores are ready to hang framed John William Hill art. His art sell in large numbers today and they are regarded by many collectors as their most valuable assets. Between 1829 and 1879, the artist exhibited widely at the National Academy of Design, and between 1862 and 1884, he exhibited extensively at the Brooklyn Art Association. He died in 1879 at his home near West Nyack, NY., and left a legacy of artwork that have become the center of attraction for many art teachers and students. He participated in many art shows and exhibitions which helped in popularizing his art
