Born in the Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C., Pat Durgin grew up during the time when abstract painting was the rage. She wasn’t impressed with art classes in public school so she spent many hours at National Museum of Art in Washington where she was fascinated by the techniques of the great masters and she enjoyed their works and the final products. Pat loved art since her childhood and most memorable moments were when she received positive reviews during her kindergarten years for coloring book activities. As a teenager she studied with Mrs. Kefauver Estes and Mrs. Farioletti Marius. She spent a summer at the Corcoran Art Gallery at the Children's Art School in Washington D.C. from here she learnt a lot, and shortly afterwards she moved with her family to Athens, Greece where she taught younger children from the United States Embassy lessons in painting and art. Her work was appreciated and she received much acclaim. When she returned to the United States she did commissioned portraits in colored pencil in the office of the Art Judge Advocate General where she was employed. She got married in 1958 and, together with her husband, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where, after 3 years, her husband got a job with Sandia Corporation. In New Mexico Pat found a large, diversified and very active arts community. She continued producing high quality work mainly in the form of framed Pat Durgin art. She also exhibited with the local Art Association. In 1966 she decided to return to Albuquerque where she began exhibiting in Albuquerque art shows and joined the Nor Este Art Association.
