Susan Davis (Born 1948 – Died 1999) was a self-taught artist whose work included formal oils, book and magazine illustration, detailed watercolors, murals, and pastel drawings that are highly evocative. Her career spanned more than 25 years. Over the course of her work, she produced a broad and highly acclaimed body of work. In June, 1998 she held an exhibition that was retrospective and was one of the most successful and eagerly received shows of its kind. The show was held over through September due to the demand and enormous response. She illustrated nine children’s books, including The Party and The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Backyard; both are best sellers. Her illustrations appeared regularly in Washingtonian magazine, New Yorker, Museum & Arts, Yankee magazine, The Washington Post, Italian Elle magazine, America Illustrated, among other books and magazines worldwide. In 1993, Susan was contracted to execute the official Presidential Inauguration image. This was meant to be for limited edition prints to be distributed throughout the world to friends and colleagues, officials, as well as posters for the national celebration. The project was very successful. Her corporate patrons included The Foundation for Critical Care, Honeywell Corporation, MCI, the Toyota Corporation, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, the Willard Hotel, Suntory of Japan, American Express, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post Company and the Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts. Framed Susan Davis art is a common sight in many prestigious buildings around the world. Susan spent most of her time over her last 8 years creating, she was most proud of her murals.
