Barbara Carter (Born in 1953) was born in Stuttgart Germany. She was taken to the Stuttgart Youth Center when she was six years old. Here, she found many different art workshops - woodworking, pottery, Batik, weaving and more. In Stuttgart, she first attended the Hoelderlin gymnasium (prominence on humanities and Latin) and then she moved to the Wirtschafts gymnasium where she graduated with the international bachelor’s degree (Abitur) in 1972. She holds a teaching certificate. Barbara was repairing rugs and participated in workshops in weaving. She also studied art at the University of Louisville where she interacted with many artists. Barbara divorced her husband in 1976 and in January 1979, she got married to Michael John Carter. She continued working as a substitute teacher until in 1981 when she gave birth to their daughter Hannah. Two years later, Stewart followed. Barbara received her masters degree in the late 80’s and taught joined the University of Louisville as a teacher of German until 1998. Around 1990, she taught herself how to water gild. Initially all the work was done in the basement. Soon, a Cuban carver was hired but labor costs made the frames expensive and it was hard to make any profit. Barbara decided to go to China with a friend in 2000. There, she was introduced to a factory that made her frames until 2011. Barbara is currently working on her own artistic endeavor - a print. Today, framed Barbara Carter art adorn the walls of many building in the world.
