Kate Jarvik Birch was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, where she still lives with her husband and their three kids. As a little child, Kate wanted to grow to be a mermaid or a unicorn. Growing up, she turned out to be a multi-facetted artist. She is a visual artist, playwright, author and funnily, a professional procrastinator and a daydreamer. Kate studied drawing and painting at the University of Utah, graduating in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. The pattern and texture in the mixed-media paintings she does were inspired by her passion for textile designs and decorative appeal of William Morris’ works of art and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Kate’s love for writing began while she was a little girl. By fourth grade she had written her first novel, the main character being suspiciously similar to her. As an adult, her short stories have appeared in Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing, Spackle, Scissors, Saint Ann's Review and the Indiana Review. Kate co-wrote her first play, “Man Enters”, with Elaine Jarvik and was successfully produced by Salt Lake Acting Company in 2011. Her literary works are currently being published by Poems Publishing. She enjoys international sales and recognition. Across her career, Kate’s paintings have been used in TV shows such as 21 Jump Street and Glee, and in various feature films. She regularly holds exhibitions of her published and internationally sold artworks at markets, galleries and festivals around the world. For art lovers who would like to have Kate Birch framed art can get them from galleries and collections. They can also be found in other finishing options such as lamination and canvas.
