P.H. Benoist (1813 - 1885) was born in Geneva. He was a photographer, painter, lithographer and engraver. He focused on the tranquility and grandeur of the interior and exterior views of many famous buildings in France. Benoist took a keen sensitivity toward the beauty of nature. He began his career in Paris and studied and apprenticed under Louis Daguerre, the most influential pioneer of early photography. His tendency was to look for new and inventive ways to present his work. His artwork has been a tremendous source of inspiration to many painters and photographers. They reflect a balance of technical and emotion skill, and his pictures have been described as unique and painterly in presentation and color. Benoist is one the most gifted topographical artists of the 19th century. He was never satisfied with the act of simply recording information by taking a photograph or by painting but was always looking at different methods of creating and presenting work so that they looked attractive to the viewers. Benoist’s images are presented on different media. Currently, framed P.H. Benoist art can be found in several institutions and in thousands of private and corporate collections all over the world. Because of the high demand for his work, several galleries stock his ready to mount pieces of art while others avail them in a variety of other finishing options. Benoist had love for the life he led and with a passion for living life to the fullest, his artwork are rich in a charming unique style and are steeped in rich earthly colors.
