Lubin Baugin (Born in 1612) was born in Pithiviers. He was a French painter of the 17th century. He received his artistic training for six years (from 1622 to 1628) after which he entered the guild of St.-Germaine-des-Prés as a master painter. Around 1632/33, Baugin traveled to Italy, where he settled in Rome. Later, after 1641 he decided to work in Paris. Most of his surviving subject pictures are religious works that include numerous small paintings representing the Holy Family or the Virgin and Child. None of his hand-painted portraits are known to have survived, although several are known through engravings. None of his works are dated. Baugin has also been credited with a group of 4 still lifes. While in Italy he married a Roman Brigitte Daste with whom he had 2 children in 1637 and 1640 in Rome. But no document can show the works he produced during his stay in Italy. When he returned to France, he was appointed to be in charge of the influential Italian painters, primarily Raphael, Parmigianino and Correggio, to whom his inspiration turned. Around 1640/1642 he painted on wood using oils, which recognized the influence of Raphael, as can be seen in the Holy Family’s portrait in the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon. His art developed so fats and he also received orders from several clients for decoration works including the chapel of Notre-Dame de Paris. Baugin died in 1663 but his art are still fresh to date; especially the framed Lubin Baugin art.
