John Atwater (Born in 1954) is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, American Watercolor Society. He’s the president of the Connecticut Watercolor Society and has received awards from the American Watercolor Society Exhibitions in the exhibitions of 1985, 1988 and 1989. His work is displayed in the permanent collection of the Mystic Seaport Museum. Atwater captures the beauty and life of coastal landscapes drawing on the subtlety of light and atmosphere of Luminist schools and the Hudson River. He studied in St. Louis, Missouri at the Washington University School of Fine Arts, after which he worked as a commercial artist for 8 years before devoting himself to painting full time. 3 of his pieces of art have been published by The New York Graphic Society, and his work is featured in two leading art books. Articles on his work have appeared in Yankee, Connecticut, American Artist, and Sailing and Motor Boating magazines. Since 1980 the artist has spent some time each summer driving and sailing along the Maine coastline, from Camden to Boothbay Harbor, gathering research material for his works of art, which he completes in his studio in Connecticut. Over the years, he has traveled the globe. That’s why framed John Atwater art are found in almost all corners of the world. His art has been the focus of discussion among many professional artists and students, and he has shared with his fans his favorite photos from very far places. He currently anchors Fox 29 News at 6 and 10 with Joyce Evans on the weekends.
