Gilles Archambault (1947-2011) was a respected painter who was born in Montreal, Canada. He started painting at the age of 31. Although that’s considered late by many, his dedication and curiosity saw him achieve so much within a very short time. In 1979, Archambault had already devoted his time to work as a painter professionally, barely a year after he started making forays into painting. He however made his entry into the visual arts field earlier, starting out as an advertising photography artist. This gave him a platform to teach himself and experiment with a number of subjects drawn from his photographic experience. Earlier in his career, he started out as an acrylics painter, but he slowly migrated to watercolors from where he gained a lot of fame. His wide involvement in art saw him, together with fellow artists, co-found “The Canadian Watercolor Society” (C.W.S.), an organization charged with looking into the technique and how to improve it. Archambault became a very powerful illustrator, making the first wine label for Harfang des Neiges. At the same time, his illustration skills saw him create more than 80 book covers for his client Les Editions Libre Expression, a company based in his home city of Montreal. Besides creating illustrations for clients, his works have also been featured in several publications, including news outlets and magazines, with some even offering discussions on his creative pieces. In terms of his artistic outreach through exhibitions, he's mainly captured Canada, the U.S., parts of Europe and Asia. Framed Gilles Archambault art have been available by numerous art outlets. His art mainly captures streets and alleys that characterize towns and cities.
