Fra Angelico (Born 1400 - 1455) was born and raised in Florence, Italy. In 1420, he entered the San Domenico monastery at Fiesole where he stayed until 1422 after qualifying as a Dominican friar. He was also a painter who did a lot of work on manuscripts and altarpieces. His early masterpiece is the Linaiuoli Altarpiece which was a triptych that was enclosed in a marble shrine. He also painted famous frescoes at a chapel in the Vatican and the monastery of San Marco in Florence. Fra Angelico is considered to be one of the best fresco painters of the 15th century. At Fiesole, Fra Angelico was probably influenced by Giovanni Dominici’s teachings. Dominici was the militant leader of the reformed Dominicans. The artist was also influenced by St. Antoninus Pierozzi, another friar who may have consolidated Angelico’s faith. Fra Angelico worked within the framework of the early Renaissance style with his art reflecting a strong Classical influence and a serene religious attitude. Today, his art is available mainly as framed Fra Angelico art which are ready to hang. There are also available in other finishing options. According to the biographer and painter Vasari Giorgio, Fra Angelico was trained by Lorenzo Monaco, the greatest miniaturist and painter of the Gothic tradition, whose influence may be seen in the vibrant luminosity and the painstaking, clear execution that seem bring to life the figures in the paintings of Fra Angelico. These qualities are notably apparent in many of his altarpieces and other pieces of artwork.
