Framed Satyr Artwork

Satyrs are creatures with human-like posture and horse-like features, like long tail, long ears and small horns on their heads. Their cheerful temperament made them be forest dwellers that often had different celebrations and enjoyed their days away. Satyrs love wine and woman, as they are followers of Greek god Dionysus. As beings that adore female companionship, they are often seen near Nymphs, dancing with them and celebrating different events. They also had a special dance that was called Sikinnis, they loved to play pipe-flute music and because they loved wine, they were very often depicted on wine cups. Their depiction in art is often in situations of drinking, dancing, playing music and having fun with Nymphs.
Their representations are the most often on black Greek pottery. Together with mythology stories, they were also presented in plays, books and paintings. In mythology, Satyrs were presented as children of Hermes and Iphthima. By their looks and age, they were separated to: Silens – older ones with bald heads and beards and Satyrisci – younger ones. In earlier art of Greece, Satyrs were mostly presented as old and ugly, but late Greek art often presented them in their youth, grace and elegance. In the area near the city of Athens, a special kind of drama plays were produced under the name “The legend of gods and heroes” that included Satyrs and Silens in their chorus. If you like different mythological beings from Ancient Greece, framed satyr art posters are the right thing for your home, as they awake the imagination of how would these mystical beings look like if they were real.
