Framed Chat Noir Art

Le Chat Noir is widely regarded as the first cabaret, attracting celebrities from all over Paris with its variety shows. The nightclub drew inspiration from some of its famous counterparts in Barcelona and St. Petersburg, but somehow managed to keep things fresh and original. Framed Chat Noir Art includes a nice diversity of posters, but perhaps the best-known one is the artwork created by Teophile Alexandre Steinlen. The cat in his poster has a magnetic gaze that makes it virtually impossible to look away.

Initially, the cabaret owners had low expectations and invested a tiny amount on accommodations, yet quickly made the transition to more glamorous venues. The success was the result of young artists and writers flocking to this place and the cabaret became so popular that eventually it had its very own humorous journal. This was published until 1895 and it lasted almost as long as the cabaret itself, with some of the most memorable images being immortalized in Framed Chat Noir Art.
